Foundations of Transgender Care

Course content will include 1) defining the roles of specialists and mental health professionals as they coordinate transgender care with therapists and professionals and work directly with the transgender population; 2) defining the role of the mental health professional in working with the transgender population; 3) defining the major categories and subcategories of identity related to sex and gender; 4) describing the stages of transition; 5) describing the decisions trans people need to make; 6) describing the challenges trans people face in various life areas; 7) apply Motivational Therapy to the transgender evaluation process. Transgender individuals will present to the class their personal experiences and be available for questions.
